The two pages of nurses’ notes represent pages 3 & 4 of 4 total pages of notes made by the two nurses on duty at the jail on the night Jessie was beaten to death, and they make the following observations: One nurse tried to stop the beating by calling out the officer’s name in an effort to get him to stop mistreating Jessie. When the officer refused to stop, she walked out and protested the beating by telling the other nurse that what the officer did was not right. The officer was observed getting a cup of water, pouring it on Jessie’s face, and stating, “Oops, don’t drown.”
